Réjouis-toi, Épouse inépousée comes from Agni Parthene, a Greek hymn to the Virgin Mary written around 1905 by St Nektarios of Aegina. Tradition says he wrote it down after hearing it sung by angels in a dream. It is sung here in French.
O Virgin, Mother and Queen, fleece covered in dew. Higher than the heavens, brighter than the sun.
Verse after verse lays another image at Mary's feet, and after each one the same refrain returns: rejoice, unwedded Bride. It is the youngest song of the evening, barely more than a century old, and it sits among the medieval chants without a seam: the same devotion, flowing from the same source.
Ô Vierge Pure, Souveraine, Immaculée et Mère de Dieu.
O pure Virgin, Sovereign Lady, spotless Mother of God.
Ô Vierge Mère Reine, Toison couverte de rosée.
O Virgin, Mother and Queen, fleece covered in dew.
Plus élevée que les cieux, plus brillante que le soleil.
Higher than the heavens, brighter than the sun.
Ô joie des vierges surpassant les chœurs angéliques.
O joy of virgins, above the choirs of angels.
Plus splendide que les cieux, plus pure que la lumière.
More splendid than the heavens, purer than light.
Plus sainte que les multitudes des armées célestes.
Holier than all the hosts of heaven.
